Socio-humanitarian department includes archaeological expedition of Khorezm Mamun academy, as well as fundamental, applied and innovational scientific projects on history, archaeology, source study, philology, literature, philosophy, economy, law, and other humanitarian sciences.

At present, 1 fundamental project is carrying out. One project supervisor (Baratov S.R.), two senior scientific workers (Sadullayev B.P., Abdullayev M.S.) and two junior scientific workers (Rakhimov Sh., Kamolova N.) are employed in the project.

On the scientific project F1-FA-0-17788, archaeological excavations are being carried out in Khumbuztepa archaeological monument and have been achieved considerable results. Khumbuztepa is determined to have been established in fourth century BC. From the upper part of the monument concerning fourth century BC, ceramics, ostrakon, has been found, which samples of script written on it. According to the Pavel Lure, the expert of Sankt Petersburg National Ermitage and epigraphic scientist, the script was written in the letters of alphabet of ancient Khorezm. The script enriches the epigraphic sources concerning history of Khorezm.

Nowadays, theoretical and practical preparations are being carried out to organize the archaeological expedition. During report the sources, found in the north-eastern corner of the temple and northern monument, have been systematized, classified and discussed. Three cellars have been found and investigated from the northern part of the temple. The remains of cellars are located in mainland, and covered with layer until the temple had been constructed (at the beginning of the fifth century BC) and so they can be said surely to belong fourth century BC. From the second cellar the remnants of man's skeleton have been found, thus it can be said that these cellars may have been belonged to ceremonies of burying in Zoroastrianism. Due to excavation, many expressive things have been determined: fully preserved bowls, ceramic pots and etc.

On scientific project № FA-A1-G015 on the subject “Catalogue of archival documents of Khiva Khans. Volume 2”, under the leadership of K. Khudayberganov, catalogue of archival documents of Khiva khans are being created. In the second volume of the catalogue of Khiva khans’ archive documents 150 documents in composite covers were catalogued. These documents have been investigated and geographic, ethnic terms and some words and terms are defined.

Within the young scientists’ project with the code YoF1-FA-G003 on the subject “Development of art in Khorezm during the years of independence” under the leadership of Abdullayev M.S. the following results have been achieved: The information about fine arts in Khorezm during the years of independence has been collected and analyzed by scientific point of view; Khorezmian artists and their works and main styles have been analyzed; There have been organized conferences with young artists and special features were determined; The information of more than 30 artists who creating art works in Khorezm have been collected and analyzed; the dominance of historical style and its special features has been analyses.
